Brahms's raucous medley of old German university songs gets our Autumn season off to a joyful start, on a concert which will culminate in Manuel de Falla's immortally festive evocation of the colors of Spain. In between, as we should, we start off the year with a welcome back to an old friend, the brilliant young violinist Igor Pikayzen, in Max Bruch's stunningly romantic concerto; and last but not least, Debussy's Afternoon of a Faun, a French Impressionist painting come to life.
